Santiago (Round 2) : Cristian Garin – Alejandro Davidovich Fokina

This will be a first between these two players.

Tournament history

This is the first time these two players have participated in this Chilean ATP 250.

In this edition

Unlike Cristian Garin who took advantage of his ranking to skip the first round, Aljeandro Davidoch Fokina already has a game in hand. The Spaniard has indeed won against Andrej Martin in 3 sets (in 2h30 of play and a tie-break).

Analysis

There are far too many green lights on Cristian Garin’s side to see him lose this match. The Chilean, who plays at home, is the star of this tournament. He should be transcended by his fans. Garin should combine that with his current form, which could well allow him to offer us an extraordinary level of play. Aside from that, Cristian Garin has won nine consecutive clay-court matches and two ATP trophies this February.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is not a wanker on this surface. And his 2019 performances are there to prove it. Nevertheless, he will have to deal with a hostile public while he is not really confident (3 small wins out of 8 games this season, all against opponents flirting with the Top 100). His power and aggressiveness in forehand could allow him to go and titillate Garin, but the latter has shown in recent weeks that he can perfectly manage this kind of opponent. The Chilean is well in his legs (to manage rallies) and also aggressive when necessary.

As you can see, I really have a hard time seeing Cristian Garin lose this meeting. All-in ! No, still not.

Prediction : Cristian Garin wins
