Rotterdam (1st round): Egor Gerasimov – Stefanos Tsitsipas

Latest confrontations

This will be the third time these two players will compete against each other.

There is one everywhere in this face to face. Egor Gerasimov had won against Stefanos Tsitsipas in their first match in 2016 (in Challenger). The Greek took his revenge in 2019 in Dubai.

Tournament history

This will be Egor Gerasimov’s first participation in the Rotterdam ATP 500.

As for Stefanos Tsitsipas, he will play in this Dutch tournament for the fourth time in his career. It should be noted that he has been eliminated in the first round twice (in his first two participations in 2017 and 2019) and has never done better than a 2nd round (last year).

Egor Gerasimov comes out of a good tournament in Montpellier where he reached the semi-finals (defeat against David Goffin). The Belarusian will therefore have a small advantage over Stefanos Tsitsipas who has not played since his elimination in the semi-finals of the Australian Open. We can therefore imagine that the current 83rd in the world will be able to surprise the Greek at the beginning of the match.

Now, let’s be objective, there is too much quality in Stefanos Tsitsipas to see him fall against Egor Gerasimov. The Greek should manage to engage more than once the rally on the good service of his opponent. Precisely in the game, I don’t see the Belarusian resisting the numerous initiatives of the Greek. During his last match against David Goffin, Egor Gerasimov showed that he was in trouble as soon as the Belgian decided to attack (the latter made the task more difficult because he made a lot of faults).

Stefanos Tsitsipas should not let Egor Gerasimov spread his wings. Also, I have no doubt about his ability to take him out of his comfort zone. Gerasimov really struggles when he’s in the rally. His moves are less precise and he makes many more faults. The mind does the rest in favor of his opponents.

So I’m pretty confident about Stefanos Tsitsipas winning here. Nevertheless, I prefer to remain cautious as he hasn’t played since the Australian Open and will be back in a tournament that hasn’t been successful for him yet.

Prediction: Stefanos Tsitsipas wins

Medium risk
