This is the first edition of this ATP 250 in Marbella. Until now, it was a Challenger tournament.

In this edition

To get to this point, Ilya Ivashka defeated Pedro Martinez and then Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. He hasn’t lost a set yet.

As for Jaume Munar, he defeated Henri Laaksonen and Fabio Fognini. Like his opponent of the day, he has not lost any set yet.

Analysis

Ilya Ivashka has already faced two Spaniards and it went pretty well. Two without three?

This match attracts me as much as it causes me problems. Indeed, Jaume Munar is on his favorite surface, in his country and against an opponent not really known to perform well on clay. All the indicators are green for the Spanish, so let’s go for it!

Yes, but here it is. I was quite excited by the last performance of Ilya Ivashka. His opponent, Davidovich Fokina, made too many mistakes. But let’s emphasize the solidity of the Belarusian’s serve and his ability to get his points.

Next to that, I found Jaume Munar less convincing against Fabio Fognini. The score was indeed one-sided, but it must be said that the Italian was not really in the game. When I analysed Jaume Munar a little more closely, I found that he did not always manage to spread his wings.

Indeed, I didn’t find Jaume Munar very percussive. His shots didn’t always start with the power and the precision that we know him for (especially in forehand). At times, he was even content to send back neutral shots.

We can explain this by the fact that Jaume Munar played his seventh match in 10 days (he reached the final in the Challenger of Marbella). The Spanish may be a bit blunt.

Because of this, I sincerely think that Ilya Ivashka could have something to say about Jaume Munar’s balls that sometimes lack rhythm. The Belarusian has this ability to hit very direct shots and this could leave the Spanish on the defensive more than once. Ivashka is never as strong as when he manages to fix his opponents and make his ascents to the net.

On the other hand, Ilya Ivashka seems to me more comfortable on his service games. This area is not a strength for Jaume Munar. I can see the Belarusian dropping a few offensive returns (like against Davidovich Fokina).

Let’s be clear, Jaume Munar needs to win this match if he is 100%. But his last match didn’t go that way, so why shouldn’t Ilya Ivashka take advantage of it?

Prediction: Ilya Ivashka wins

High risk
