This will be a first between these two players.
Jaume Munar will participate in this tournament in Cordoba for the third year in a row. He reached the quarter-finals in 2019 and the second round last year.
Nicolas Jarry, for his part, will play this ATP 250 for the second time in his career after 2019 when he was defeated in the first round.
Nicolas Jarry is back in business after being suspended a year ago for doping (which explains why he is no longer ranked). He resumed competition at the end of last November and this is not extraordinary for the moment. To put it simply, he’s not doing as well as he used to at the moment.
For his part, Jaume Munar is in good shape. He did not participate in the Australian Open and returned to compete directly on clay. It was in Turkey, for the Antalya 1 and 2 Challengers. The Spanish won the first one and reached the final of the second one (defeated by Taberner). Since the beginning of the season, it is thus 9 wins for one defeat on this surface.
Jaume Munar is, like his opponent of the day, an excellent forehand puncher. This shot is very reliable (unlike Jarry’s which can be quite feverish at times). It allows him to get the ball back into the opponent’s camp very quickly and with good lengths. It is also important to highlight his ability to cover all areas of the court. Its good defense often forces its opponents to give the best of themselves.
Nicolas Jarry had a very good level before his suspension. A big serve and a “Delpotresque” forehand that allowed him to outflank more than one opponent. Unfortunately, he is still far from that and this lack of landmark could be accentuated by Jaume Munar’s catchy tennis. It should also be noted that Nicolas Jarry has never really been an example on the mental level. And that could also play tricks on him in this match.
So I don’t expect to see a 100% Nicolas Jarry in this match. Hence this high level of confidence.
Prediction: Jaume Munar wins
